Ancient Russian hand-painted icon The Sixteen Great Feasts of the Passion cycle 36x30 cm. The orthodox icon of the Sixteen Great Feasts is a traditional sacred representation in Byzantine and Orthodox art that illustrates the main liturgical events and holidays of the ecclesiastical year. Detailed icon, it represents in the center the composition of Holy Easter with the scenes of the Passion depicted around it: the Last Supper, the Washing of the Feet, Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, the Kiss of Judas, Jesus on trial by Caiaphas, Jesus on trial by Pilate, the Crowning with Thorns, the Flagellation, the Via Crucis, the Crucifixion, the Deposition of the Cross and the Sepulchre. In the outermost cycle the 16 Great Festivals are represented. In the central part: descent into Hell, Adam kneeling and Christ taking him by the hand giving the impression of pulling him up.The other figure that accompanies the Descent into Hell is that of Eve; the procession of the blessed towards Paradise on whose door the good thief stands; the resurrection of Christ from the tomb and the appearance on Lake Tiberias.
