The Russian icon dates from the early 1700s and was restored in the 21st century.The religious icon presents the Madonna of the three hands carrying the baby Jesus in her arms. Its history dates back to the year 1716 when the venerable John Damaskin was unjustly accused by the caliph, who cut off his hand as a punishment. Subsequently, following the sufferings, he was given back the hand that John, praying to the Mother of God, was able to reattach himself. After this event he applied the third hand on the icon and always carried the miraculous object with him in memory of his recovery.Russian icon made on a wooden board with levkas layer. It was hand painted with egg tempera over a gold leaf, easily noticeable on the halos and on the third hand of the Madonna.The Russian icon is packaged in a velvet box, an appraisal and a certificate of originality.Measurements: 35 cm x 32 cm.
