Legend has it that the first image of Our Lady of Kazan was discovered in the city of the same name, thanks to a vision revealed to a nine-year-old girl. The Madonna appeared to her three times, indicating the place where the icon had been hidden by the Christians during the Tatar occupation of the city. In 1612, during the conflict for the liberation of Moscow from Polish occupation, Kusma Minin and Prince Dimitri brought with them a copy of this miraculous icon, firmly believing in its intercessory power. It is said that it was thanks to the intercession of Our Lady of Kazan that Moscow was liberated, consolidating the icon's role as a symbol of protection for the Romanov dynasty, elevating it to one of the most venerated relics in Russia.In the 19th century, the importance of this icon led to the construction of the Kazan Cathedral on Nevski Prospect, further cementing its place in the hearts and history of the Russian people.
