Ancient Russian icon Joy of All the Afflicted metal riza 19th century 29x25 cm. This orthodox icon was glorified in 1688 after the miraculous healing of the sister of Patriarch Joachim. Two versions of the fate of this icon are given: in 1711 it was taken to St. Petersburg, and a copy went to Moscow. These two icons are very different. The characteristic that the variants have in common is the image of the afflicted who direct their prayers towards the Mother of God.At the center of the composition is the crowned Holy Virgin, holding the Child in her left hand. The image is surrounded by signs taken from the book of the Apocalypse, the people surround the Mother of God and she consoles them.
