Ancient Russian icon The Sixteen Great Feasts Cycle of the Passion 19th century 31x36 cm. Holy Easter is depicted in the center of the composition. Around the scenes of the Passion are depicted: the Last Supper, the Washing of the Feet, Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, the kiss of Judas, Jesus on trial by Caiaphas, Jesus on trial by Pilate, the crowning with thorns, the Flagellation, the Via Crucis, the Crucifixion, the deposition from the Cross and in the Sepulcher. In the outermost cycle are represented: Old Testament Trinity, birth of Mary, trinity of the new testament, presentation of Mary at the temple, Annunciation, birth of Jesus, presentation of Jesus at the temple, Baptism of Jesus, Transfiguration, entry into Jerusalem, resurrection of Lazarus, ascension of Christ, beheading of the Baptist, joy of all the afflicted, Dormition of Mary, Exaltation of the Cross. In the central part: Adam is kneeling and Christ takes him by the hand, giving the impression of pulling him up. The other figure is Eve, in some icons Eve and Adam are on the same side, but most are depicted symmetrically: Christ in the Center, Adam and Eve on the sides. The icon dates back to the 19th century and comes from Central Russia. It was made with egg tempera and on a lime wood panel.
