The Christ Pantocrator is a very popular icon that idealizes the greatest power and glory of Christ. The figure of Jesus is depicted in a full-length blessing position and with a very expressive face. According to tradition, with his right hand he blesses holding the palm of the hand open and the thumb and ring finger joined. With his left hand he holds the Gospel open to the faithful, on whose pages the written Gospel rituals always appear which, although repetitive, vary from image to image. In addition, the Halo features the typical Greek letters indicating ''He who is''.In this type of Russian icon it is above all in the face that the iconographer tries to express the ineffable reality of God made Man. In all the paintings we find in the face of Christ Pantocrator a strong resemblance: the large, pensive and deep eyes, divided by a particularly elongated nasal septum, red lips and tightened in a wise silence, helmeted hair, spacious forehead and small ears that emphasize the listening attitude. This icon, coming from Central Russia in the early 19th century, was made with egg tempera and measures 30.5x27 cm.This Pantocrator icon is delivered in an elegant blue velvet case and an expert certificate.
