Ancient Russian icon Christ Pantocrator 19th century 31x22 cm. The orthodox icon depicts Jesus full-length, frontal and hieratic in a blessing position. In his left hand, he holds the universe and with his right he blesses the faithful. In the halo, there are the Greek letters indicating ''He who is''.The face expresses the ineffable reality of God made Man, a typical concept taken up in all the paintings depicting Christ Pantcrator over the centuries.The ears are distorted to indicate a listening position and the tight lips indicate a silence of wisdom.Very rare are the versions with the Gospel closed, while in this case the Gospel is represented open to allow the faithful to read some sentences. The Christ Pantocrator icon is made with egg tempera on a lime wood board. It dates back to the 19th century and comes from Moscow. Measures 31x22 cm.
