So one of those who had crucified him took a sponge, the immersed in vinegar and after placing it on the end of a cane he handed it to him. Jesus cried out again and shortly after expired. In church, on Good Friday the liturgy is not celebrated but the Royal Hours are read and Vespers take place at the moment of the Lord's death, at the third hour of the day. In the center of the icon Christ suffering on the cross, on his left: Saint John the Warrior Martyr with a sword, on the right: Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, with a spear and a shield.
