Russian icon Deposition of the Cross 14x10cm. The religious icon depicts one of the fundamental moments of the Passion: the scene represents the moment in which the body of the deceased Christ is lowered from the cross. At his feet the Pious Women mourn him, while Saint Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea lower his body from the cross. Two disciples lower the body of Jesus using a bandage, while the others find themselves with their hands stretched out towards the body of Christ.The cross depicted is Orthodox, and is divided into three transverse lines. At the foot of the cross you can see a skull, symbol of Adam's remains and the sins for which Christ sacrificed himself. The Russian icon is a copy made from solid linden wood and is covered with gold leaf. It is made according to the principles of the Russian Byzantine school. Measures 14x11cm.
