Ancient Russian icon of St Nicholas the Wonderworker 19th century 37x31 cm. Saint Nicholas was born in Pantara in 280 and died in Myra in Lycia between 345 and 352. Nicholas is represented wearing bishop's robes, wrapped in the omorphorion adorned with crosses, blessing and holding the gospel in his hand. The relics of this saint were stolen and transported from Myra to Bari in 1087.
