Russian icon The Sixteen Great Feasts and the Resurrection of Christ 19th century 35x30 cm.Antique Russian icon made in Moscow, Russia in the 19th century depicting the Sixteen Great Festivals and the resurrection of Christ.It is a 35x30 cm wooden panel to which a canvas is fixed with levkas, a natural glue, which is then covered with gold leaf and painted with egg tempera colors following the principles of the Byzantine school.The orthodox icon is made up of sixteen external panels, each depicting a Feast, respectively the Nativity of the Virgin, the Presentation of Mary in the Temple, the Trinity of the Old Testament, the Annunciation, the Birth of Jesus, the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, the Baptism, the Entry into Jerusalem, the Transfiguration, the Ascension, the Dormition of the Virgin, the Raising of Lazarus, the Beheading of the Baptist, the Exaltation of the Cross, Pentecost and Pokrov.At the center of the sixteen squares there is a larger square which represents the translation of the theological message of Easter and depicts the descent of Christ into hell, the procession of the blessed towards Paradise, on whose door stands the good thief, the Resurrection of Christ sepulcher and the Apparition at Lake Tiberias.The Great Feasts icon is delivered in an elegant blue velvet box and is accompanied by the report of an expert registered in the register of experts.
