Ancient icon Stauroteca in bronze Central Russia XVIII century.In the Christian tradition the stauroteca is a reliquary intended to preserve fragments of the cross of Christ. Over the years, however, this term has begun to be used improperly to identify religious art items with inserts of metallic material. Precisely for this reason the icon in question, painted on a wooden panel and levkas with bronze inserts, is called Stauroteca.There are 11 bronze plaques, and each of them depicts an important episode for the Christian belief. In the center is the Our Lady of Kazan, an icon that, according to Russian tradition, saved the city of Moscow from the Polish insurrection. Around it are depicted: at the top the hymn 'Akathistos' to the Mother of God and the Crucifixion of Christ, in the center four adorations to the Virgin and at the base order from left to right, the birth of Mary, the Annunciation, the Presentation in the temple of Mary and the birth of the baby Jesus.The Stauroteca icon, 26.5x31 cm is unique and dates back to the 18th century. Made in central Russia.The religious icon is shipped in a velvet box covered in satin, with a certificate of guarantee and originality attached, with an appraisal drawn up by the experts of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage of Russia, and an export document.
