The work dates back to the early 1800s, comes from Moscow and measures 31x26.5 cm.The 12 Great Feasts are the main solemnities of the Orthodox liturgical year. Some of these feasts are celebrated on a fixed date such as the Nativity of Mary, the Exaltation of the Cross, the Ascension and Pentecost. However, over time, Russian iconography has added four other equally important holidays according to the sacred scriptures. After the eighteenth century, especially in Russia, some iconographic schemes developed which grouped the cycle of the twelve festivals into a single representation.In order: the Old Testament Trinity, the Nativity of Mary, the Presentation of Mary in the Temple, the Annunciation, the Birth of Jesus, the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, the Baptism, the Transfiguration, the Entry into Jerusalem, the Ascension, the Dormition of Mary and the Exaltation of the Cross. In these icons the central scene acquires great prominence.The Great Feasts icon is painted in egg tempera on a solid linden wood panel. It is shipped together with a box set and an appraisal carried out by an expert.
