The statue represents the first apparition of Our Lady, on June 24th 1981, which took place at the foot of the Podbrdo hill in Medjugorje.The Madonna is depicted with one arm outstretched forward, wearing a white veil that falls on a gray white robe, with some gold trim.The Virgin is portrayed with a sweet smile and a sad but always sweet look, turned downwards, towards those who gather in prayer around her.On the base there are three plates, the first plate engraved with the date of the first apparition of the Virgin on the hill of Podbrdo, June 24th 1981.On the second plate, there is the word Kraljica Mira, or Queen of Peace, it is engraved because the message she entrusts to the faithful is a message of Peace, a Peace that can be reached through a path consisting of five five stones, humble prayer, fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays, daily reading of the Bible, confession once a month, and the Eucharist every day.Finally, the word Medjugorje is engraved on the third plate.The Our Lady Queen of Peace statue measures 41.5x15 cm. It is made of local marble powder and hand painted by a Bosnian company in Medjugorje.The statue is treated with a special protective lacquer that makes it suitable for outdoor.
