The statue represents the Madonna on a cloud, symbol of her apparition in the sky on the hill of the city of Medjugorje.The Blessed Mother Medjugorje wears a white veil that falls over a gray-white tunic, with some gold trimmings.At the foot of the Virgin there is the church of St James, a place where all the faithful and pilgrims gather to have contact with the Madonna.In addition to being the protector of pilgrims, St. James is also the patron saint of Medjugorje.In the base there are three plates, the first shows the date of the first apparition of the Virgin at the foot of the Podbrdo hill in Medjugorje, June 24, 1981.The second plate bears the inscription Kraljica Mira, Queen of Peace.Our Lady is also called Queen of Peace, because the message she entrusts to her faithful is a message of Peace, and Peace can be reached through a path that sets five steps, called the five stones. These are humble prayer, fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays, daily Bible reading, Confession once a month, and the Eucharist every day.Finally, the word Medjugorje is engraved on the last plate.The statue measures 31.5x10 cm and is carefully detailed. It is made of local marble powder and hand painted in Medjugorje by the artisans of a Bosnian company.The statue is treated with a special protective lacquer that makes it suitable for outdoor use.
