Known since antiquity, it consists in shaping the sculpture with wax in detail, on a clay core, and then covering it with refractory ceramic material. The subsequent firing in the oven is intended to melt the wax that will come out of the drains and vents and in the empty cavity left poured, with a crucible, the molten bronze that is allowed to cool and then proceed with the chisels to dismantle the refractory earth. In the last finishing phase the sculptor proceeds with a mechanical scraping of the statue, by sandblasting, to obtain a satin surface, or to polish with the help of a burnisher.With this procedure, only unique staues are produced, since the loss of the wax model and the clay coating is inevitable.The religious statue can be exhibited both indoors and outdoors. The funerary statue is colored with paints that allow it to resist even outside.
