Russian double-sided hand painted egg Madonna Vladimir 39.5 cm.The orthodox egg was hand painted by skilled Russian painters specializing in freehand painting from the miniature school. The egg is double-sided: on the front there is a reproduction of the Madonna of Vladimir, called Vladimirskaya by Russians, and on the back a guardian angel is depicted standing on a cloud with his arms open. This representation of the Madonna is also known as the Mother of God of Tenderness: the Child is seen embracing the Mother by lovingly placing an arm around her neck, one on her chest and pressing his cheek against hers. The image was painted with a gold leaf technique which has the peculiarity of highlighting some details such as the halos and decorations along the edges of the pedestal. The Lady of Vladimir egg measures 22.5 cm on its own, 39.5 cm on the pedestal and the diameter is 15 cm. The Russian orthodox egg is an artisanal product and entirely hand painted.
