Russian icon of 14x11 cm depicting Our Lady of Fiodor, made on a solid linden wood panel covered with gold leaf and hand painted according to the principles of the Byzantine-Russian school of icons.This orthodox icon is a faithful reproduction of one of the most famous archetypes of the 17th century ''Our Lady of Fiodor'', which can be found in museums, orthodox churches or private collections. According to legend, the icon was revealed in 1239 in Kostroma and was taken to the local cathedral, according to other sources the original was brought to Ruthenia by St. Theodore Statilates in the XIII century.The Lady of Fiodor iconographically belongs to the ''Our Lady of Tenderness'' type. In this representation, the background is gilded, while in the foreground we see the Virgin with a red cloak holding Jesus Christ on her right arm, who tightens his cheek to the Virgin's face, placing his right hand at the height of her collarbone. This position of the Virgin and Jesus is a typical trait of this iconographic category. The Virgin has a sad look, as if she were already aware of the torture that Jesus will have to suffer.This Fiodor icon has a ring on the back for hanging and, also on the back, there is a guarantee certificate and a small space dedicated to the history of the icon.
