Russian icon Madonna Tolga hand painted 14x10 cm.This orthodox icon is a faithful copy of one of the most famous original archetypes of Our Lady of Tolga, dating back to the 15th century. Our Lady of Tolga appeared on August 8, 1314 to the bishop of Rostov, Prochtor. The bishop on the right bank of the Volga had a vision of the Virgin that very night and it is for this reason that the feast of the icon is established on the day of the apparition: 8 August. The Russian icon is made and painted by hand, according to the principles of the Byzantine-Russian school of icons. It is covered with gold leaf and is made on a solid linden wood board measuring 14X10 cm.The Lady of Tolga icon is delivered in its box, made of the same material. It is made with a ''craquele'' effect to give that additional effect of antique aging. The Virgin's mantle is orange, decorated with gold trim. From the closeness of the two faces (of the Virgin and of baby Jesus) and from the worried face of the woman, it is clear that the icon falls under the category of the Our Lady of Tenderness. The nearby faces symbolize the affection between a mother and a son.The worried face, on the other hand, is the fact that the mother is already aware of the bad fate that her son will follow. On the back, in the upper part, there is a hook for hanging the icon, a red guarantee certificate with two stamps and a label with a short story about the Mother of God ''Tolgskaja''.
