Modern Russian icon Our Lady of Jerusalem 31x27 cm. Modern Russian icon depicting Our Lady of Jerusalem. According to legend, the original icon was painted by the holy evangelist Luke. In 463, the image was transferred by the Greek king Leo I the Thracian to Constantinople, subsequently it was Ivan the Terrible who brought it to the Assumption Cathedral in Moscow in 1571. The icon definitively disappeared after the war against Napoleon in 1812. Today in the cathedral main of the Moscow Kremlin you can find an exact copy of the miraculous icon. The figures shown by this copy are the Madonna, Mother of God indicating the Baby Jesus, Christ blessing with the scroll of the Holy Scriptures in his hand and above them on the sides the parents of Mary, the saints Joachim and Anna. Hand painted with the egg tempera technique on wooden panel and levkas, the icon, a copy of the original, is delivered in an elegant blue box with a satin interior.
