Life-Giving Spring icon modern Russian hand painted 31x26 cm. This icon, called the Lifegiving Spring, is created by expert iconographers on wood and is characterized by the use of bright and elegant colors. The work represents the legend of the Most Holy Theotokos, staging the miracle that occurred in the 5th century near Constantinople. The warrior Leo Marcellus, a future entrepreneur, following divine indications, discovers a hidden spring and uses its mud to anoint the eyes of a blind man who miraculously regains his sight. This event is a prelude to the prediction of his accession to the throne, as prophesied by the voice of the Mother of God. Seven years after the event, Leo had a temple built around the spring, restoring the place of worship and dedicating it to the Theotokos. The icon, deeply venerated also in the Sarov desert in Russia, was a source of healing for many pilgrims directed by the holy Seraphim of Sarov. On Friday of the Bright Week after the liturgy in Orthodox churches, a prayer service is usually held before the icon of the Mother of God, with holy water during this prayer service, believers sprinkle their gardens and orchards, calling the help of the Lord and His most pure Mother to provide for the harvest.
