Tenderness icon Vladimirskaya Byzantine, 40x30 cm hand painted in Romania.
Lovely religious icon particularly revered in Russia because of the part it has played in the national history of its people as a result of which it acquires a very important place in western catholicity, since Pope John XIII entrusted it to the veneration of Western Christians because it implored for the unity of the churches.
The original, from which numerous copies followed, was painted in Constantinople at the beginning of the XII century, brought to Kiev in 1131 and later transferred first to Vladimir in 1155 then to Moscow in 1395, where every year it is celebrated three times in thanks for the liberation of Moscow from the Tartars.
The Virgin is depicted as a deified creature that is: on the face the celestial and the human are joined. The face is that of a mother whose gaze makes us enter the heart of Mary who is already meditating on the announcement of future sufferings, already experiencing the drama of the cross.
The boy on her left hand squeezes the mother's neck to bring her face close to his in an extreme gesture of tenderness amplified also by the gaze all focused on the mother whom he seems to almost console by saying "don't cry, mother". The adult traits already well formed on the child's face and the broad forehead, reflect divine intelligence.
The icon of Our Lady of Tenderness Vladimirskaya is hand-painted in Romania, in a Romanian style, following the traditional iconographic techniques. It is delivered in a blue box with satin interior and includes a certificate of warranty.
