As per the Byzantine tradition, the light is painted with gold.The Kiev-Bratskaya Icon of the Mother of God is a Marian icon named after the Ukrainian city Kiev and the Bratsky Monastery (meaning ''Monastery of the Brothers''). In 1662 the Crimean Tatars, allies of the Polish invaders of the time, crossed the Dnieper near Visgorod and destroyed the church where this icon was venerated. They threw the icon into the river and it floated to the lower part of the city just in front of the Bratsky Monastery. The monks welcomed her into their monastery with due honor.The Mother of God icon is delivered in a blue velvet box with satin inside.
