It provides a wooden base, on which the canvas is placed which is covered with layers of plaster, in which the drawing is engraved and then painted according to the lighting technique. This technique reflects the philosophical thought that in sacred icons the characters are not illuminated by an external light source, but are themselves formed by pure light. This is the reason why the gold color is so predominant because it is associated with light. The original icon was painted in the 16th century and is now kept in the Putna Monastery, Moldova. This Mother of God icon measures 29x21 cm and is 100% hand painted in Romania. Any slight imperfections could present themselves as witnesses of the artisan process of creating this work. The icon is delivered in an elegant blue velvet and satin box. It includes a certificate of authenticity and history of the icon.
