Religious icon depicting the Mother of God Donskaya, revered Russian icon attributed to Theophanes the Greek who traditionally is associated with the victory against the Tartars, first in 1380 and then in 1591. It owes its name to the Don region, in which lived the Cossack people who donated it to the Prince of Moscow Dimitri del Don.This Romanian icon is completely handmade by a Romanian artist who follows the traditional Byzantine iconic method. The icon consists of a wooden base on which the canvas is spread and numerous layers of plaster, where the drawing is engraved and hand-painted in bright colors. The color gold is very present in this icon as a symbolic color of pure light.This Donskaya icon measures 20x14 cm and is delivered in an elegant blue velvet box and satin interior. It includes a certificate of guarantee and pamphlet containing the history of the icon. This beautiful Romanian icon may have slight imperfections, a distinctive sign of the craftsmanship of the work.
