Icon Holy Family Return to Nazareth hand painted Romania wood 40x30 cm.The orthodox icon in the photo portrays the episode of the return to Nazareth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary. As written in the Gospel according to Matthew, the Holy Family moved to Nazareth from Bethlehem (Jesus' birthplace) to escape the massacre ordered by Herod. The parts of light are represented with gold and in general the image follows the Byzantine style even if the icon is not among the classic Byzantine.The craftsmen who make this icon by hand used a particular Romanian technique, called Illumination: it consists of applying various layers of plaster to the linden wood tablet to which dark and then light colors are added.The Holy Family returning to Nazareth icon measures 40x30cm with a thickness of about 2cm. It is delivered in a blue velvet and satin box. On the back of the orthodox icon, there is an envelope containing a descriptive card and a certificate of authenticity.
