The painting depicts the scene mentioned in the book of Genesis of the visit made by three identical and distinct figures to Abraham. In the most widespread interpretation of the biblical text, the three men are greeted and then hosted by Abraham in a canteen prepared for them, they are understood as angelic presences and as such they become directly the representation of the Trinity itself.
