There are various versions, the most famous has as its reference point a lake near Libya. In fact, this creature lived in the lake and prevented the inhabitants from drinking water. In order to draw water, the inhabitants offered young virgins as a sacrifice. When this fate touched the sovereign's daughter, St. George suddenly appeared on horseback. The horse with hooves trampled the reptile and in the meantime St. George ordered the princess to tie the reptile's neck. St. George struck a blow with his sword and finished off the dragon.
