This icon tells the story of John Damaskin, a venerable man who was unjustly accused and punished by having his right hand amputated. After recovering the limb, John prayed intensely before an icon of the Madonna, who appeared to him promising him healing. Subsequently, he composed a song in honor of the Madonna to express his gratitude. Having become a monk, John constructed a silver hand as a tribute to the Madonna and attached this to her miraculous icon, which was later given to the Archbishop of Serbia.
