Screen-printed panel Holy Family 40X30 cm Byzantine Greece. This Greek orthodox icon, made in the traditional Byzantine style, depicts the hand-painted Holy Family. The two major figures, Mary and Joseph, are approached in an affectionate attitude, with hands joined together or entwined with the hand of Jesus. The Mother of God is dressed in the colors of tradition: the blue tunic and the red cloak to indicate that she has been invested with divine royalty. Saint Joseph wears a blue tunic, in reference to his spirituality. His left arm descends to create a circle around the Child, recreating the figure of the Madonna of the Sign. This makes the Holy Family icon an expression of the presence of God at the center of the human family. Little Jesus has a white tunic with shades of blue, a symbol of transparency.
