Russian icon Ascent into Heaven of the Prophet Elijah ancient XIX century.Orthodox icon, dating from the early 19th century and from Moscow, Russia.This Russian icon celebrates several episodes in the life of the Prophet Elijah, up to his ascent into heaven on a chariot of fire. In the center, he is depicted with a prophetic cloak over his shoulders. On the left, it is represented the apparition of the angel to the sleeping prophet, before his ascent to Mount Oreb.On the lower right side, Elijah accompanied by his disciple, Elisha is visible. The episode is that of the crossing of the Jordan, during which the prophet Elijah shook his cloak in the waters of the river which parted to let them pass. Above this scene, in the upper right corner, the fiery chariot drawn by horses made of flames is depicted on which Elijah climbed ascending to Heaven.
