Our Lady of Vladimir icon with case 19th century antique Russian 24.5x21 cm.This Russian orthodox icon entitled ''Our Lady of Vladimir'' dates back to the second half of the 19th century, and is painted in the style of the Moscow School.The first mention of the original icon is found in the chronicle of the year 1155 where it is said that the icon was brought to Kiev, to the Vychgorod monastery. In the same year, Prince St. Andrew Bogolubski brought the icon to his principality of Vladimir-Suzdal where he decorated it with a gold frame and then transferred it permanently to Moscow.The aforementioned icon is part of the ''Tenderness'' iconographic type, in which the Child Jesus is seen with his left cheek resting on the right cheek of the Madonna, symbolizing the relationship full of tenderness between the two.The Our Lady of Vladimir icon is made with egg tempera on a linden wood tablet. The icon is contained in a protective case and embellished with an embossed riza bathed in gold and silver. It is shipped accompanied by a report drawn up by an expert.
