Icon of Mother of God Immortal Flower ancient Greek XVIII century 30x20 cm.The Greek orthodox icon of the Immortal Flower Mother of God is a very faithful copy of the miraculous image revered in the Alexeevsky Monastery.This image is one of the oldest and most venerable among icons of this iconographic type.The first mention of the original icon of the Alexeevsky Monastery dates back to 1757, but unfortunately today the traces of the original icon are lost.The maximum diffusion of this type of icon had its greatest renown in the 19th century.Usually in the center of the icon there are images of the Mother of God and the Infant Jesus dressed in royal attire, decorated with gold. Baby Jesus stands on a table in front of the Mother, a sign of the Virgin's closeness to the seat of God.The more complete icons also depict the sun, the moon, a star, a censer, a candle, and other objects which are symbols of Mary. The flowering branches and planters are linked to the name of the Immortal Flower icon. This icon is celebrated on April 3rd.This icon comes from Greece and the technique used is egg tempera. The orthodox icon measures 30.4x21.6cm and dates back to the 18th century.It is shipped together with a box set and an expert report.
