Painted Icon Joy of All Who Suffer, Russia from the 18th century. 30x25cm.The miraculous icon of the Mother of God ''The Joy of Who Suffer '' comes from the church of St. Nicholas in Tolmaci of Moscow. She was glorified in 1688 after the intercession and miraculous healing of the sister of the patriarch Ioachim.In the 18th century this orthodox icon experienced many variations influenced by more Catholic iconographic elements. The common feature of all the variants is the image of the suffering who address their prayers to the Mother of God, their protector and mistress.The crowned Virgin is always at the center of the composition with the child in her left hand. Sometimes people who invoke the Mother of God are divided into six groups: the staretz, the ignudi, the sick, the afflicted, the hungry and the pilgrims, all consoled by the angels sent by the Virgin.The real measurements of this Russian icon, from St. Petersburg, are 31.7x26 cm and it was made with egg tempera.This Joy of All the Suffering icon is delivered in an elegant blue velvet box, accompanied by a certificate drawn up by an expert.
