Antique Icon Christ of Deesis (entreaty)

Icon. Christ in Majesty, Christ in Glory. Antique icon dating XIX century representing Christ sitting on a throne according to the Deesis 'prayer' iconographic image. The Deeis, antique icon module, portraits at the center a full-length enthroned Christ entreated by his mother Mary on his right and St John Baptist on his left. This image is a Byzantine characteristic creation dating VII century: on the one hand it carries the meaning of a grown sensibility of Christians on the topic of Christ returning at the end of times, while on the other it carries the meaning of intercession through the Saints prayer, which is bound to become an integral part of the sacred building later on. The Deesis is ideal center of iconostasis, since it clearly shows the connection between Christ, presence of the Eucharist, and humanity. La Deesis is the promise of Heaven. The peculiarity of this icon is connected to the basma made of gilded brass, richly decorated with details in relief.
