Antique icon 12 Great Feasts gold background Russia XIX century 40x30 cm.
Russian icon of the Great Feasts from Moscow and made in the 19th century on a lime wood panel measuring 35.5x31.5 cm. This icon depicts the Twelve Great Feasts of the Orthodox calendar in a sequence of theological logic, a fact that gives it historical as well as iconographic value. The Twelve Feasts, taken from episodes of the Old and New Testament, a form of biblical liturgical catechesis always to be kept under the eyes of the Orthodox faithful. The composition with square and rectangular sketches is articulated around the great representation of Easter, formed by a set of scenes aimed at rendering the message of Easter as a whole, the 'mother of all holidays'. We then see in the central panel the descent into hell of Christ, the procession of the blessed towards Paradise, the resurrection of Christ from the tomb and the apparition at the lake of Tiberias. In the outer part of the icon runs a very valuable frame with engraved and painted decorations, at the four corners of which are paintings of four Evangelists. This Great Feasts icon is a unique and unrepeatable piece. Delivered with a blue velvet case, export document and certificate of authenticity.
