Ancient Russian bronze travel icon Deesis 19th century 36x15 cm. Starting from 1440 AD the use of icons in metal, wood, porcelain and other materials spread in Russia. The advantages of travel icons, compared to classic wooden ones, are their modest weight, affordable cost and long life. The forms generally were the crucifix with or without lateral icons, the diptych, the triptych, the polyptych and the single tablet. In this triptych the Mother of God and John the Baptist are depicted in ''Supplication towards Jesus''.This Deesis icon was created using the bronze casting technique, then gilded and enameled.The top icon was made with the bronze casting technique, it was then gilded and enameled.It comes from Moscow and dates back to the 19th century.Measures 36x14.5 cm.The icon is sent in a box together with a report from an expert.
