Triptych of icons with golden riza depicting Jesus Christ blessing between the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist, who begs for sinners. The three Russian icons each measure 26.5x31.5 cm and date back to the mid-1800s. They are painted in the typical Moscow School style.The representation of the Deesis is often the central part of the iconostasis of Orthodox churches, and can be accompanied by figures of other saints and archangels. The Virgin and the Baptist are chosen as the first witnesses of the divinity of Christ, and also in the representations of the Last Judgment they are to intercede for mankind.These three icons are 100% painted and are each embellished with a riza, decorated and chiseled by hand and placed above the painting so as to show the faces and hands of the subjects.The icons are painted with egg tempera on a linden wooden board.
