Wood Crucifix Christ and Mary 40x30 cm Mato Grosso.Wall crucifix in lenga wood with Christ and Mary, size 39.5x29.5x1.5 cm.The crucifix was hand carved in wood and then worked with wax details with shading.The timber comes from Lima, Peru and is brought to the Andes where the workshops are located at an altitude between 2800 and 3600 meters.The timber must be aged for 1 to more years, depending on the thickness. When the humidity drops to 12 - 13% it is ready to use.The drawing, first executed on paper, is made on a wooden board. Subsequently, the wood is carved with the help of chisels and gouges.In the first phase of the processing, it is roughed out defining the figures, then with other tools worked partially until the complete realization of the image with all its details.The image is intense and represents Mary contemplating the mystery of her son with great pain.All the young sculptors came out of the 'Don Bosco' art school and received the tools to be able to work.This wooden crucifix is made in Peru by local artisans who work within the Mato Grosso project.
