The Pieta: Scene of the deposition of crucified Christ, interpreted by artist Angela Tripi.
The figure is adapted for a 30 cm nativity set, not actual size.
The scene depicts the deposition of the body of Jesus from the cross, in the arms of the Mother who mourns his death. As in the famous work, La Pietà, Mary, seated on a rock of Mount Calvary, holds her Son in her arms.
The face of Our Lady reveals to us the profound pain she is going through, her benevolent but empty gaze tells us of her inconsolable sadness.Every figure of Angela Tripi's nativity is created with a strong attention to detail. The artist takes inspiration from the traditions of the ancient Arab world and, by re-elaborating the history and customs appropriately, comes to a personal interpretation of the characters of the time. While most terracotta statues of the traditional nativity scene are constructed from a skeleton covered with clothes to which the extremities are applied (head and limbs), the artist Angela Tripi's statues have a completely formed body: they are molded nude and subsequently dressed with fabrics and small jewels, details capable of giving the statue an amazing realism. The artist manages to give personality, charisma and charm to each creation. Details such as wrinkles, grins, tendons, tense muscles are clearly seen. Above all, while a traditional statue, has a static nature and reminds us of a trade or a character, admiring these works you realize that there is a story behind those faces and those looks, a life, that Tripi does nothing but capture the essence of a particular moment in time. The craftsmanship of each statue makes each piece always different and one of a kind.
