Shepherd with fire wood, 18 cm Angela Tripi nativity.
The shepherd arranges the last bales of hay and prepares the straw for his animals. Something in the sky distracts him during his work and he is amazed and fascinated by a star that lights up the night.
The statue is made of terracotta and cloth, meticulously painted by hand. Angela Tripi manages to create shepherds characterized by an extraordinary wealth of details, charisma and expressive strength. A very important characteristic is that the statues of Angela Tripi have completely formed bodies. Instead, traditonally terracotta statues of the traditional nativity scene, for example the Neapolitan one, are built starting from a skeleton covered with fabrics to which the head, hands and feet are applied. The statues of the Tripi differ by having the terracotta body "dressed" in cloth. In her works, the artist tells a story: each statue is depicted at a specific moment in their life, telling us a before and an after of that moment. Details such as tense muscles, tendons, expression lines and hands (open and with well-defined fingers) often emerge clearly. Angela Tripi succeeds in giving each shepherd an amazing realism, never before seen and unrepeatable: her shepherds will never be equal to each other rending each one unique. Adapted for an 18 cm nativity scene.
