The wicker basket maker moves his hands quickly and in a few moments creates wonderful baskets: he intertwines the twigs, ties them up, stops them and in a very short time he manages to create a basket. Heh as wrinkles on his face and the tired eyes, but the movements are now automatic and rapid. The shouting of the market does not distract him, but a light that illuminates the sky does: soon he will know that the Savior was born. All the nativity statues are handmade, in terracotta and cloth, with skill and care by the Sicilian artist Angela Tripi. Normally the statues of the traditional nativity scene, for example the Neapolitan one, are made with a skeleton made with fabrics and with the end pieces in terracotta (the head, hands and feet). In her works, the artist tells a story: each nativity scene figurine is depicted in a moment of their life, allowing us to understand the existence of a before and after moment. Characteristic details often emerge as tense muscles of a slave or the expression lines of an elderly person. Angela Tripi succeeds in giving each shepherd an amazing realism, never seen before and unrepeatable: making each piece a unique collectible. Adapted for an 18 cm nativity scene.
